PhD in Life Sciences

Bakhytbol Khumyrzakh holds a MSc degree in Public Health from Tzu Chi Medical University, Hualien/TAIWAN (2019) and joined our group on March 2021 as an RA. Bakhytbol is working on the effectiveness of growth factors. Her current work focuses on the effect of bone related growth factors on cell behavior from different sources including bone cells, umbilical cord cells and stem cells.

PhD in Chemical Engineering

Albina Abdossova holds MSc Biomedical Engineering from Nazarbayev University (2024) and joined our group on 14 August 2024. Albina is working on biosensor development. Her current work focuses on the implantable biosensors for cartilage regeneration and testing their performance in a rabbit in vivo model.

PhD in Life Sciences

Abdullateef Olayiwola holds MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Nazarbayev University (2026) and joined our group on 16 September 2024. Abdullateef is working on development of biosensors. His current work focuses on the development of collagen biosensors for cartilage regeneration applications.

Ingkar Issatayeva holds MSc Biomedical Engineering from Imperial College London, UK (2025) and joined our group on 1 July 2026. Ingkar is working on development of osteochondral grafts. Her current work focuses on the fabrication of graded scaffolds and in vitro culture of cells.

Master in Biomedical Engineering

Syed MR Naqvi joined our group on 10 October 2025 and is working on ligament regeneration. His current work focuses on the fabrication and testing the performance of PCL-PET scaffolds in-vitro and in-vivo. His work will be very useful in understanding the behavior of cells during repair and regeneration of ACL tears.

Master in Biomedical Engineering

Aruzhan Askarkyzy joined our group on 15 October 2025 and is working on ACL characterization. Her current work focuses on the characterization of collagen structure in the healthy and injured ACL. Her work will be very useful in understanding the behavior of cells during repair and regeneration of ACL tears.

Master in Biomedical Engineering

Gulmaral Kenesbek joined our group on January 27, 2026 and is working on biosensors. Her current work focuses on the development of biosensors for the detection of biomarkers for cartilage degeneration and osteoarthritis (OA). Her work will be very useful in the early detection of initiation and progression of OA, and will provide input for developing wearable/implantable biosensors.

Aruzhan Zhakhina joined our group on August 27, 2026 and is working on microfluidics. Her current work focuses on the development of organ-on-chip for osteochondral (OC) interface. Her work will be very useful in simulating OC interface in a device, and will provide input for developing physiologically relevant environments to potentially replace animal studies.

Merey Zhazylbek joined our group on August 27, 2026 and is working on biosensors. Her current work focuses on the development of biosensors for the detection of biomarkers for cartilage degeneration and osteoarthritis (OA). Her work will be very useful in the early detection of initiation and progression of OA, and will provide input for developing wearable/implantable biosensors.

Tilekshi Myrzaly joined our group on August 27, 2026 and is working on meniscus tissue. Her current work focuses on the characterization of meniscus tissue structure and composition. Her work will provide significant input for developing biosimilar structure for meniscus replacement/regeneration.

Agila joined our group on 30 January 2025 and is working on ligament tissue engineering. Her current work focuses on the development of biomimetic bimodal fibrous polymer-based grafts and their in vitro performance characterization.

Mengsulu joined our group on 12 March 2025 and she is working on synthesis and characterization of nanobubbles for targeted delivery of biomolecules. Her current work focuses on the development of PEG-PLGA nanoparticles.

Inara joined our group on 8 September 2025 and she is working on implantable biosensor development for biomolecules. Her current work focuses on the development of collagen biosensors for cartilage and bone regeneration.

Zhaina joined our group on 8 February 2026 and she is working on Biosensor development for OC tissues. Her current work focuses on the development of optical biosensors for MMP-13 detection in the knee joint.
